RULES & REGULATIONS
THE WORLD SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO FEDERATION, INDIA

MEMBERSHIP
There are two types of memberships in WSKFI

a) DOJO (branch / or Area) Membership
b) INDIVIDUAL Membership

DOJO MEMBERSHIP

Individual Dojo Affiliation
Individual DOJO (Branch) would be given affiliation from WSKFI India. An Instructor operating only a single dojo or a few dojos only should get his/her, dojo/dojos affiliated under individual Dojo Affiliation Scheme. In such case he/she has to pay yearly individual dojo affiliation fee for each dojo.

Multiple Dojo Affiliation
An Instructor or a group of instructors operating a chain of dojos either directly or through students can get all dojos affiliated under Multiple Dojo Affiliation Scheme. In such case affiliation certificate will be issued for the entire group or for each and every dojo as desired by the concerned instructor/s.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP
Any individual can be a member of WSKFI provided he / she fulfils the following conditions:
i) He / She has to pay an annual individual membership fee to WSKFI.
ii) He / She should be a member of an affiliated unit (DOJO) of WSKFI.

AREA MEMBERSHIP
District Affiliation
Instructor/s having a reasonably sound presence in a district may be allowed to have district affiliation from WSKFI HQ. In such cases permission may be granted to form WSKFI district body in that particular district. Such district body may offer affiliation to other instructor/s from that district, interested to join WSKFI from that district, on behalf of WSKFI. The district body in such cases may fix a reasonable affiliation fees from such interested person or group from that district. The decision in this regard will be taken by Chief Instructor / Committee of WSKFI India.

RULES CONCERNING TITLE OF DOJO
An instructor can use any name for his centre subject to the following conditions:
i) He/She should not use any personal name for his/her centre.
ii) He/She should not use the word "INTERNATIONAL" in the name.
iii) It is a good idea to use the word Shotokan, but it is not compulsory.
iv) The name must not give an impression that it is the only recognized controlling centre in the area, region or state (untill and unless permitted by WSKFI Head Quarter)
v) The sentence 'Affiliated to THE WORLD SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO FEDERATION, INDIA' must be mentioned prominently.
vi) The logo of WSKFI can be displayed but in such case it should be prominent and preferably at the top and centre of the area covered.

CONDITIONS FOR AN AFFILIATED BRANCH

a) A DOJO should be run by a Balck Belt (Minimum Shodan) authorised instructor. In special cases junior students can run such a centre, but he / she must be under a Black Belt Instructor having valid authorised Instructor's license of WSKFI.
b) Instructors must get Instructor's licence from WSKFI. An Instructor is allowed to operate any number of centers, anywhere in India.
c) Practicing members of any DOJO must have yearly Individual Membership Card (ID) of WSKFI.
d) Instructors must conduct regu8lar periodical grading tests & training camps under Sensei Chaudhury for the members of his / her DOJOs, as per guidelines laid down by WSKFI Head Quarter.

PROCEDURE OF AFFILIATION

1. Fill up the DOJO registration form, licenec form and questionaire.

2. Pay the following fees through cash or demand draft in favour of SATTRAJIT CHAUDHURY payable at Mumbai.

a) Affiliation Fee (Dojo, Multiple of District)
b) Instructor Licence Fee

3. A Bio-Data mentioning details such as grade in Karate and experience (training & tournament, if any) etc. and two copies of passport size photographs. Photocopies of grade certificates must be enclosed along with the application.

4. The following documents will be issued on receipt of the requisite filled up forms and fees:-
i) Letter from WSKFI HQ mentioning affiliation and instructorship.
ii) Instructor's Licence.


Please note that the affiliation certificate, instructor's licence and examiner's licence (for eligible candidates) will be issued after training / grading camp under Chief Instructor of WSKF India, Sensei Sattrajit Chaudhury. The camp must be organised by the applicant for his students within a period of 3 months from the date of affiliation. The training / grading camp should be atleast for two days. For details such as availability of dates, camp fees etc., the applicant should contact Sensei Chaudhury directly.

GRADING FOR BLACK BELT

WSKFI's black Belt Grading

WSKFI conducts Black Belt grading for eligible candidates, subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions:-

1. Those appearing for Black Belt examination must have requisite standard applicable to a particular grade of Black Belt.
2. He/She must complete the requisite time period (number of years of practise).
3. He/She must have a valid International ID book & Gi - logo (as pe rules of WSKF HQ, Japan). Those appearing for first time must submit the requisite fees for the ID book & Gi - logo along with the grading fee.
4. Members from other styles, who have joined WSKFI can also appear for Black Belt examination. In such cases he/she must undergo proper training either at HQ or organised in other venues under Chief Instructor of WSKFI. He/She will be graded to a suitable grade based on the technical level and experience in Karate. The decision will be taken by the Chief Instructor of WSKFI.
The certificates are issued from WSKFI's H.Q. such Black Belts enjoy the following benefits:-
i) He/She can enter tournaments, camps, seminers organised by WSKF, India.
ii) He/She is eligible to be considered as an Authorised Instructor or an Authorised Examiner of WSKFI.
iii) He/She can run DOJO/s in any part of India and get them affiliated with WSKFI.

WSKF, Japan's Black Belt Grading

Grading for Shodan (1st Dan) from WSKF Japan is conducted by Sensei Sattrajit Chaudhury, Chief Instructor of WSKF India.

Nidan(2nd Dan) or higher Dan gradings are conducted by Sensei Hitoshi Kasuya, Chief Instructor of WSKF, Japan during his visit to India every year.

Certificates from WSKF, Japan are recognised throughout the world and by premier Karate organisation, like World Karate Federation (WKF) and Japan Karate Federation (JKF). It should be noted that all WSKFI Black Belts are advised to go for certificates from WSKF, Japan, so that they have an Internationally recognised certificate.
AUTHORISED REFEREE & JUDGE
WSKFI conducts periodical seminar and tests for persons interested to function as official referee and judge, recognized by WSKFI.
They will be taught rules of WKF as well as WSKF.

Interested candidates (not below rank of 1st Dan) can appear in such seminars & examinations.

Successful candidates will be issued licence valid for two calendar years and they may be allowed to appear for referee's / judge's examination conducted by the All India Karate-Do Federation (A.I.K.F.).
AUTHORISED EXAMINER
Only authorised Examiners of WSKFI can conduct grading for members of WSKFI. He / She must possess a valid examiner's Licence to be eligible for conducting any grading test. An authorised examiner can conduct grading test for KYU grades (upto 4th KYU). In special cases senior examiners may be allowed to conduct Brown Belt grading. The decision for the above will be taken by the Chief Instructor of WSKFI.

Applicants for examiner's licence must fulfil the following conditions:-
i) He / She must be a Nidan (2nd dan).
ii) He / She must be of minimum 25 years of age.
iii) He / She must have at least 5 years of teaching experience.

Any of the above mentioned rules can be relaxed in special cases only by discretion of Chief Instructor of WSKFI.
